Vivid Flinders Ranges - Wildflower Spectacular
ex Adelaide

Departs Most Fridays

Vivid Adventures
is pleased to present Vivid Flinders Ranges Wildflower Spectacular.
The colours of summer have been painted upon the trees, pastures, hills and rugged rocks of the Northern Flinders Ranges in South Australia - whilst the wildflowers are limited to some creek beds and tree lined rivers, the moist springs in Wilpena Pound provide a year-round feast of colour, and our attention is increasingly drawn to the colours of the rocks and trees.

Ask to see a gallery from a recent tour.

Day One (Friday)
The Tour Departs Adelaide Friday between 11AM and 12PM, and heads to Quorn.
Depending on numbers, this sector may be via coach to Port Augusta where you will be met by the tour vehicle.
After travelling through Quorn we will head for Mount Arden for the evening to witness the last rays of light striking the remarkable Wilpena Pound and the Western Plains and capture the prehistoric yaccas silhouetted against the evening landscape.  The long shadows of the setting sun will provide lots of interesting light play and photography opportunities in the wide landscape and the closeup details.
Accommodation at Andu Lodge (backpacker style) in Quorn.
[Upgrades to en-suite cabins in Quorn Caravan Park may be accommodated if available.]

Day Two (Saturday)
Early rise in order to travel to Warren Gorge area to a special elevated spot overlooking the Willochra Plains with uninterrupted views across to the Horseshoe Range to enjoy the rising sun's soft touch or perhaps the ruins of an old farm-house being intriguingly lit by the sun, followed by breakfast with a hot cup of plunger coffee to waken all the senses.   Here the rare and endangered Yellow-footed rock wallabies are often seen, as well as flocks of cockatoos and corellas.  We travel through the Bunkers enroute to Chambers Gorge via the spectacular SkyTrek 4WD track where your preconceptions of the Flinders Ranges will be blown apart by the majestic river red gum lined creeks, along old station tracks, disused mining and goat-shooters tracks and firebreaks, to the highest point in the Flinders Ranges - the summit of Mount Caernarvon.
If the light in the middle of the day is rather harsh, we will set up in the bar/restaurant at Wilpena Pound and learn new photo editing skills.
We will leave in time to watch the displays of the setting sun in Chamber's Gorge or similar to the shrieks and cries of the local wildlife.
After dinner there will be opportunity to share more photography in the bar/restaurant and learn more photo editing skills.
Accommodation will be in backpacker accommodation in Wilpena Pound Resort.
[Upgrades to motel or resort accommodation may be accommodated depending on availability]

Day Three (Sunday)
Becoming accustomed to early rises, we will depart early for the Appealina Homestead Ruins in their gum-lined creek setting and catch the long light and beautiful shadow play upon the freestone rock walls and lovely creek setting.
Using old station tracks and gravel roads we will make our way through Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges (where we will set up for dinner). We will then witness the colours of the Heysen Range in the setting sun, or the Western end of Wilpena set off by the props of railway fettlers cottage ruins, or windmills as looks good to us on the day.  On the way we will explore the remnants of old agricultural exploits long failed, providing opportunities for close ups and interesting ruins and landscapes returning to Wilpena Pound after a heart warming dinner and full of the experiences of the day.
Accommodation will be in backpacker accommodation in Wilpena Pound Resort.
[Upgrades to motel or resort accommodation may be accommodated depending on availability]

Day Four (Monday)
We start the day with exploration at our own leisure, and a walk trough Brachina Gorge (3km walk) & drive through Aroona Valley and Bunyeroo Gorges.  We will take a walk to Arkaroo Rock aboriginal art site (approx 1 hr.) and then travel through Hawker & back to Quorn, a quick tidy up then it's on the Coach back to Adelaide arriving at approx 9.40pm Friday evening.
