What to take on a Vivid Adventures Tour?

There is limited space on most Vivid Adventures Tours, but there are some things you will want to take:

Camera Equipment

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will NOT require a Digital SLR camera for our tours.
We believe we will be able to teach you how the get the best out of your camera, regardless of what type it is, including film cameras although the immediacy of the learning experience can get a little lost.

Your working camera and choice of lenses if relevant
A working tripod and/or monopod
A remote release for your camera if you have one
2 days spare batteries charged
2 days memory or film (depending on your camera and your shooting style, image format, camera resolution etc. this may be 200 or more images and 1 to 6-GBytes of memory cards)
A backpack for your camera gear
Battery recharger and Australian power adaptor
We recommend putting your name on your equipment
We are able to arrange to rent equipment on your behalf (costs on application),
including:
* Nikon D2X and Nikkor Lenses
* Canon EOS 5D and Canon Lenses

We can be tempted to bring film cameras including Medium formats or Holgas if there is sufficient interest.  There may be a film developing charge if you are using these cameras.
We recommend you bring a waterproof bag for your camera if we are in the tropics (failing that, a large ziplok bag that will take your camera).

Clothing & Footwear

Appropriate clothing for the time of year
Anticipate some cool nights and cold mornings
Anticipate hot (sometimes very hot) conditions for outback tours
Good outdoor walking shoes (harder walks will be optional but we often will be walking on uneven ground)
Good layered outdoor clothing for extremes of hot and cold.
Nightwear appropriate for modesty in shared accommodation (where appropriate)
Anticipate potential for rain - usually a lightweight waterproof jacket suffices
We recommend putting your name in your hats/jackets
Toiletries
Please keep your luggage to one "carry-on" style bag - the tour has limited space.
Personal Water bottle or camel-bak - we recommend you be able to carry 2 litres of water for outback tours, and 1 litre for other tours.

Food & Wine

BYO wine, beer & spirits - we will stop to purchase liquor (at your expense) and sometimes will pool our resources into a kitty for this purpose (in these situations we recommend $25 per head)
A personal water bottle and holder are recommended
We provide all meals (unless specifically excluded) and drinks (including drinking water) and snacks but if you have specific needs, we'd recommend you discuss them with us, and where possible we will cater for them, or accommodate you bringing your own.
Most meals are served out-doors with plastic cutlery or are "eaten with your hands", and whilst healthy and nutritious are not "silver service".
We provide tea, coffee, water and cold drinks at most stops and reasonable snacks to go with them.

Personal Protection

Sun-screen
Sun hat - sometimes the flies can be oppressive and a hat with a mesh screen may be desired if flies are likely to bother you
Warm clothing for colder times
Clothing to keep you dry if you are in the tropics
Personal insect repellent

Laptop

If you have a laptop (with image editing software on it) and bring it, you will have more freedom to edit your images and get instruction in your photo editing software.
We are extremely familiar with Photoshop and have a good knowledge of similar photo editing suites - we may not be able to answer every question about them though.
Please bring your power adaptor if you are bringing your laptop.

Bedding

We will provide bedding.  If you have specific needs please let us know.
